Job Description

Procurement engineering is the set-up of procurement in the business covering procurement processes while working closely with our innovation department as well as marketing & sales.  

The procurement engineer is accountable for the business related procurement KPI’s such as BoM savings and global supplier rating system score as well as contracting.

Procurement engineering covers the in-depth understanding of the product context ‘End to End’ and delivers the business procurement strategy including the strategic cost management vision to the commodities. You work in projects to bring new products to the market and to deliver cost savings.

By taking part in new product development and collaborating with the cross-functional team and business stakeholders, you govern that products are developed at the optimal cost level while delivering the right value for the consumers.

You are driving this by applying value engineering, early supplier involvement and the design-for-excellence methodology, as well as ensuring a competitive supplier landscape with strategic sourcing and support in negotiations.

In this role, you have the opportunity to

  • Provide product savings through cost down projects and new product introduction projects
  • Be a key partner in significant product cost reduction activities, in early phase innovation or in the manufacturing phase.
  • Contribute to developing the cost engineering function.

 You are responsible for

  • Ensuring that optimized TCO (cost, quality, availability) are assured in product and business creation and through their full life cycle, utilizing DFX.
  • Driving the sourcing plan, leading supplier selection and ensuring adherence to the Business Procurement strategy.
  • Driving early supplier involvement and identifies cost drivers to influence design decision making and achieve target costing.
  • Representing procurement in new product development, matching suppliers against business needs and leading supplier selection ensuring adherence to the business procurement strategy.
  • Collaborating with Supplier Quality in the new supplier/component release process, including compliance and sustainability aspects.
  • Supporting price negotiations with opportunities to drive short and long term cost reduction improvement.
  • Cost down projects and new product introduction projects executed for assigned product portfolio.
  • Addressing problems with unique and/or cross functional implication.
  • Evaluating supplier manufacturing systems and processes and subsequent data collected for the purpose of analysis.
  • Maintaining updates to the costs for assigned product/module and ensuring that cost models are up to date and information is available as required.

You are a part of

To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience

  • BS or above in engineering discipline, major in mechanical, electrical or electronic engineering is preferred
  • More than 5 years’ experience in supply chain, procurement related functions in sizable MNCs, past experience in manufacturing, engineering, project management, quality or related functions in high volume assembly-type industry such as consumer products is preferred.
  • Understanding the principles of value engineering and the materials / goods flow
  • Understanding the principles of executing cost down projects and new product introduction Projects
  • Strong in technical and procurement or other relevant commercial skills, deep knowledge of the long term structural cost drivers for the assigned product.
  • Motivated, self-driven with a determination to succeed and the ability to manage change.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and management.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills in both English and Chinese language are required
